A two-CD package consisting of a mix compilation on disc one and a mix of twelve 16 Bit Lolitas tracks over on disc two, this is an essential bit of listening for any fan of prog house.

Disc one represents a journey into the world of low-slung prog house and is packed with easy-paced tracks that could feasibly sit anywhere in a set of this kind of music. Personal highlights are Peter and Ariaan’s own ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, a haunted chiller of a track with its ghostly vocals from Jennifer Horne, the velvety swathes of synth and loungy grooves on Spirit Catcher & Compuphonic’s ‘Dream Machine’ and the drifting vocals of Astrid Suryanto’s ‘Distant Bar’. By skipping tracks on this CD you tend to ruin the easy flow that it has, so it very much merits listening through from top to bottom.

Disc two is the undoubted highlight and selling point of this compilation. From the moment the lush layers of synths on opener ‘Sunrise At Warung’ kick in, you know that you’re in for a treat as one top-drawer track follows another. Indeed, whilst the opening track sought to capture the essence of sunrise at the popular Brazilian beach bar, you could just as easily imagine yourself on a blanket of golden sand anywhere in the world with this track in your earphones. The purposeful, rumbling grooves and eerie soundwaves of ‘Karmageddon’ then kick start the mix, with further highlights including the swirling atmospheres of ‘More Horizon’, the wistful melodies of ‘The Heartbreak Files’, the dark and destructive ‘Murder Weapon’ (which has already had its praise from me) and the punchy beats, dense bass and catchy 80s-inspired melodic hooks of ‘Ceres’. The icing on the cake is that this CD is also mixed, and so takes you on a journey from the casual drifters at the start to the heavier hitting groovers at the end.
