Reviews & Discussion

A disappointing release from the one who invented the future in the 90's. The raggacore track, well, not bad, but there's a lot of rookies out there able to kick it out in a rougher & funnier way, as the guys from Low Res label or Addict (of course). B-side maybe needs a multi-speakers listening to bring its full effect, dunno. But, obviously Hecker and Merzbow stay the best values in this kind of exercise, and the Cornwall Lover sounds a bit lazy in this white noise trip...

I am very disappointed with this EP. The remix of Bug is good but not to disimilar to the original mix. In fact I think I prefer the original. But what really makes this EP a piece of junk is the two noise tracks on side B. What the hell is that all about? Unlistenable bilge. Compared with MEN 1 (the 2 Remixes by AFX) this really is a complete let down.

This offering from AFX has certainly split the fans. In my view, it seems to be one of his weakest offerings, relying on the sort of childish brutality that went out of fashion ages ago. There are countless more producers who do the ragga n bass thing better (Venetian Snares for one) - this trades in the raw, simplistic minimalism of the original for a style that seems to be trying far too hard to shock your neighbours/parents/pets.

Less is more these days, and such OTT efforts simply don't cut it - the original's menacing bass balistics are far more effective.

awesome record, people are only just beginning to appreciate this record,I`ve heard a lot come around fully to it.
ktpa1,2 I think are not supposed to be extreme noise tracks just like an interesting study in some weird noises
anyone who has heard this run the place ,record on a dancefloor can tell you it works and totally goes off!
having it,slamming remix.
i think it was almost released to sort the wheat from the chaff in his fans, top move ! It needed to be done.

Not particularly bad. Just not worthy of pressing to wax and charging (for We Americans it's an import) 10 bucks for it. I love James' work. He was inspirational. And even though I find some of the sounds interesting (B-side), I don't think artists should release experiments that are without much value for the 12"-buying market. These releases should be collected and packed into 80 minutes on a cheap cd, not pressed onto expensive vinyl. Next release like this one needs a warning label: "These tracks have no groove and are mostly noise" ...Reminds me of that disappointing Grantz Graf Ae 12"... I believe in artistic freedom. And the artist has the freedom to drive his/her audience away... A fine choice, but not one I would make unless I was super rich and could afford the risk. And well...

I can't say a bad thing about this ep. Fans of the breakneck gabba/mentalist AFX material wont be disappointed with the mix of "Run The Place Red" by The Bug feat Daddy Freddy. However, the next two tracks "Ktpa1" and "Ktpa2" may only be played once by many people. These tracks are really for the people who could listen to Satanstornade (WARPCD666) all the way through but in all, a worthy purchase.

I thought the second release on Men Records will be as great as the first one ("2 Remixes By AFX"), but I was completely wrong. Track 1 is really good - hardcore gabba remix of The Bug's good track. But two KTPA tracks are the worst tracks AFX has ever done - there's absolutely nothing musical about either one - just plain noise, beeps and bops. It's not what I expected. I've always loved AFX's music, but this release is absolutely disappointing...
