Reviews & Discussion

To me, '10 000 hz legend' is a brilliant album for air to have released after 'moon safari'.

'Moon safari' is laid back easy listening that is immediately accessible, requiring no work to fall in love with.

I believe, air released this album to intentionally have the opposite effect on their listeners and to challenge them, as the second track asks, 'How does it make you feel?'

I remember the first time hearing '10 000 hz legend' being completely shocked and outraged. I couldn't believe a band like air could produce such rubbish after a beautiful album like 'moon safari'. Well that was years ago, and since then I have listened to this album many many more times, and now realize that its absolutely superb. I in fact now listen to 10 000 hz far more regularly than 'moon safari'. I also now see in retrospect that the music in this album is really far more evolved and intelligent than the dreamy soundscapes in 'moon safari' which are quite typical.

I bet that fivershutch who wrote his comment in 2004 would actually update it now in 2009 after listening to this album over the years, and agree with me.

Bottom line, if you are a true audiophile and cannot see the absolute brilliance in '10 000 hz legend' then you need to go back to music school 101.

What's with all the bad ratings & comments? I think this is a pretty stunning album. It really was a drastic change in direction for Air, but the result is pretty awesome. The album is very melodic and it sounds quite IDM-ish in places. However, I wouldn't argue about the fact that it has a few flaws: Whereas it's nearly impossible not to love tracks like "The Vagabond" and "Radian", some tracks like "Wonder Milky Bitch" manage to ruin the whole feeling of an album.

As a conclusion, I just want to say that people must be more openminded. I'm pretty sure that most people were expecting Moon Safari 2 and were really surprised by totally different music. It's a very good thing that Air always enhance their horizons and not repeating themselves.
After all, if someone dislikes this album - it doesn't mean that it's bad. It just means that it's not your cup of tea.

I think this CD had one of the shortest lifespans in my collection. I was really disappointed with this after being blown away by Moon Safari. I really tried to give this CD a chance. I listened to it over and over and it did nothing for me! :( After being duped into buying the Everybody Hertz CD, I've vowed not to purchase anymore of their albums with out listening to them at the preview station first (yes, I'm one of those buyers who purchases CD based on word of mouth, magazine reviews, or even the label's reputation). As the saying goes "fool me once, shame on you! fool me twice, shame on me!".
