I was lucky to visit the legendary Cisco Records-shop in Tokyo just a couple of weeks after this magical masterpiece had been re-released. So I bought it without any hesitation.
In the booklet Adham tells us about where he found the inspiration for this cd - his trip to India (hence the title of the album). And this cd truely is a 'journey to the sun', a very surreal one though... Oh if I could just describe the beautiful imaginary landscapes that comes up to my mind when listening to "journey to the sun" or "infinite emanation"!
The other longer tracks: "emergence", "liquid evolution" and "zero g" are definately not worse than the others. All of these five mentioned tracks are absolutely stunning! Amazing! Incredible!
Listen to this music loud in some high-quality headphones and you will get so hypnotized that you just have to listen to the cd one more time. Perhaps the most hypnotic album I know, and one of the best ambient albums I know together with Solar Quest - Orsghip, FSOL - Lifeforms and some Dakini Records-albums... Recommended to any open-minded music lover who likes to get seriously lost in his/her music!

Adham Shaikh’s “Journey to the Sun” is a fantastic example of how amazing the fusion of Western electronica and Eastern aesthetics can be when it’s done right. Too many electronic musicians have attempted to capture the Eastern ‘mysticism’ or ‘spiritualism’ in hard-pounding 4/4 trance only to fail miserably and produce nothing but ethno-garbage. “Journey to the Sun” is not one of these embarrassingly cheesy failures.

Apparently inspired by a trip through India & to the Himalayas Shaikh himself went on (during which he sourced the samples used in this recording), this CD lives up to its name. Droning Indian sitars, hauntingly melodic bansuri & venu flutes, religious chanting, ethnic percussion (as well as beatscapes), are all layered with excellent synthwork & fx processing. The result is compelling and demands a loud headphone session. Highly recommended!
