the sample "proceed with the visual attack" comes from the 1984 film The Last Starfighter

Proceed With a Visual Attack....

That break in the middle with the massive fat ambient pads has to be one of the defining moments of the rave period. One of the first tracks I can remember which pushed those buttons so shamelessly. I suppose it does sound dated because it was so widely copied but the memory of hearing that on a huge soundsystem is almost tangible.
The percussion sounds are brilliant as well with a really metallic nasty electro beat reminiscent of MBM or similar 80's industrial electro.

"Visual Attack" was one of the first rave tracks I've ever heard. It was on a CD that I had purchased called "Killer Techno". Its only been recent that I scored the Sonic pressing of this at a record show for 5 bucks. The original is the cut that I had always heard. Its got a steppy yet slow and groovy breakbeat thats full of industrial style percussion, whistles, and of course the mighty Alpha Juno hoover sound. Probably the most amusing feature of this tune is how it gives respect to the rave/club lighting designer who is truly an unsung hero.

The finest cut on this 12" is however the first Oh-Bonic mix. It takes the original and stutter edits the hell out of it which makes it sound a bit like Rabbit City 003 which is fantastic.

I see someone mentioned here that this track doesn't stand the test of time, well I disagree. If this was dropped in a nightclub today I'm certain it would have the same effect now as it did back in 92. That or the track would create a mosh pit like at a metal concert. Either way it sure gets your emotions raging.

'Visual Attack' is definitely hardcore and hasn't stand the test of time in my humble opinion. 'Let It Take You' however, is a smooth housetrack with groovy bassline reminiscent of what labels like Guerilla were releasing some two years later. So this was sort of a prequel to the first prog-house wave. The fact that I found out years later that it's produced by the blokes of Future Sound Of London makes it extra special and collectable.
A minor classic !
