I'd really like to know where Amon found his inspiration (and his samples) for the 4th track of this great release. I had a big surprise when I compare this track with the 6th track "Up And Away" from the Wibutee's album "Eight Domestic Challenges" released by Jazzland Rec. in Norway. You have the same melody in the background ! Maybe inspired from an old movie music... Anyway "Out From Out Where" was released in 2002, Wibutee's in 2001, and I pretty love theses two different releases.

This is a solidification of Tobin's great work. After "Premutation" looks like he wanted to make things diferent and he started to make a kind of sound completely new. "Bricolage" and "Premutation" are very still like the "Adventures In Foam" that got too much sampled breaks from jazz tunes and movies samples. He already said that he loves to grab a old tune, sample it to the bone and make a completly diferent song form it. On "Supermodified" he uses samples from the most unexpected things and put them into a musical context. On "Out From Out Where" he pushes the limits of his imagiantion and the result is a album that fits perfectly as a movie soundtrack. Listening to this album is like a trip to somewere...

I was not terribly impressed with this set. It seems to lack some of the energy and inventiveness the prior ablums displayed. I could always expect to be uplifted when I put in a Tobin CD, but with this one, while my toe taps a few times here and there, it usually just goes right through my ears and back out again.

Perhaps it will grow on me, these things some times to happen.

Amon Tobin's sound has really changed for this album. Whereas his previous records had this cinematic warmth to them, this one seems to be a bit flat. A few tracks still have that old feeling, such as "Mighty Micro People".

I only knew Amon Tobin from his last CD, Supermodified. That CD strangely enough never really appealed to me. It had some very good songs on it, like '4 ton mantis', but the CD on the whole was rather incomprehensible and inaccesible. With this record, all that changed. What remained, were incredible heavy beats, intense 'soundscapes' (man, i hate that word) and music that keeps you stunned for minutes after the CD has ended. Amon Tobin has made his music accesible for 'the man in the street' (supposedly like me...) but has even so created a CD that is so intense you will be stunned for sure...
