"Permutation" brings Amon Tobin again into the jazz/electronic music scene with his unique sound that includes jazz, classical and jungle. This sophomore album keeps impressing the Ninja Tune fanbase, like his debut "Bricolage" did. Expect some dark and relaxing atmosphere while listening this experimental masterpiece. The release reminds of the 50s-60s with its breath taking samples that Mr. Tobin intelligently used. I almost feel like I'm as old as my grandparents.

Yes, this really is a grand experiment in future jazz/d-n-b tricknology. Its drum-n-bass moments are like drums on speed yet with that very special artistic touch. Its future jazz moments are just as relaxing and invigorating as jazz was always meant to be. Amon Tobin is a pioneer in drum-n-bass experimentation and shows off his innovator status brilliantly on this album. At the time of this release drum-n-bass was really in a funk and Amon showed us all there was and always is hope. My personal favorite and a cornerstone track in my entire techno oriented arsenal is Nightlife. The horn samples are unforgettable once they burn their place in your brain forever. Play it, play it often!

Dark, quirky, menacing, funky and wicked are some of the words you could use to describe this album, but the best thing to do is buy it, Mr Tobin is really in a class of his own.
