Augustus Pablo - King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown

Many years later, I can only confirm the sentiments expressed by my fellow discogs comment-writers. I first heard these tracks at least 20 years ago, and they have only proven themselves over the years as being incredibly timeless and ethereal. Of note to fans of David Mancuso's compilations on the defunct Nuphonic label, is track number 7, "Braces Tower Dub No. 2", which is a brilliant expansion upon the well-known "Chapter Three" by Joe Gibbs. I won't even attempt to try and figure out who's borrowing or stealing whose multi-track tapes from who in this case, but Mister Pablo's Harmolodica is a nice addition to the production, and is worth the cost of this album in any format. Of course the whole album is a framework for his lyrical playing and is essential listening.

If you only ever own one dub record (if you only ever HEAR one dub record) make it this one! All star cast of musicians headed by Augustus Pablo, with a who's who of the best 70's musicians from Jamaica. Add to this the DEEPEST EVER dubs from the master, the originator, King Tubby (RIP), makes this a 'top ten of all time' record.

Recorded and mixed on a (I beleive) 4 track recorder and mixer, the tones on this LP are some of the best heard from _any_ studio. Tubby built his own EQ's and effects, and hand wound his own inductors for his filters.

Deep deep bass, tight springy drums, sharp guitars, and the evocative melodica of Pablo drifting in and out on waves of delay, mysterious ambience, cross-talk, reverb, and the tightest playing - all dubbed within an inch of its life by King Tubby.

A must have.

Unbelievable ; just listend to it a couple nights ago on vinyl and was completely blown away by the sheer space that gets created in the mix . This doesn't sound like any other dub-album i came across . The riddims were built mostly by the Barrett Brothers ("Familyman" Aston on Bass and Carlton on drums ) , sometimes Robbie Shakespeare played bass , too . The interaction and the different sound of their bass+ drumming is unique , that's why Bob Marley wanted them for his band The Wailers . . Augustus Pablo on Melodica Organ and Piano , the mighty brass section ( Tenor Sax - Dirty Harry ;Trumpet - Bobby Ellis and Trombne by the mighty Vin Gordon,) Chinna Smith plays beautiful guitar . Their contributions all swap in and out like guests on a nice garden party in outer space .With King Tubby at the Controls everything is in the right place -perfection - A Must for any music - lover
Maybe you don't get it immediately , but there is a certain secret and lots of magic in the spirit of these sounds , when you check it you'll be a lucky person for a while ;-) ..

This has to be one of the all time great dub albums. Pablo in King Tubby's studio with a number of brilliant Jamaican mucisians, including Robbie Shakespear and a sweet horns lineup. The tracks, produced by Pablo are then put through the dub blender by King Tubby to bring out a classic, haunting Augustus Pablo album. His melodica sounds bring out haunting 'far eastern' atmospheres and the echoing drums and booming bass take the album to deep and mysterious levels far ahead of its time.
