Right off the bat on Swimming, Baby Mammoth seems to be branching out: “Quick Kick” goes for a more ‘live’ sound. But they quickly settle into what they do best: funky electronic downtempo. They continue to add more effects to their production technique, which results in a more full sound. Sure enough, in keeping with the aquatic theme, the tracks here flow beautifully, almost organically. The live sound makes a welcome comeback in “Urban Waltz” –- which makes it stand out in a good way -– but other tracks like “Funnels” and “Strong Downward” are equally enjoyable.
