Banco De Gaia - Big Men Cry

After the exceptional first two albums by Toby Marks on Planet Dog records, this third release has to go down as a disappointment for most Banco De Gaia fans I would imagine.It starts well enough with Drippy which is fairly typical Banco though it takes a while to get going.The next track Celestine is the highlight of the album-a beautiful piece of music.Drunk as a Monk keeps things going pretty nicely and the title track Big Men Cry is lovely.After that though the album really loses its way I feel.Gates Does Windows is a cop out fill in track,a waste of album space in my view.Then the last two tunes-Toby's attempt at Orb-esque chillout tracks doesn't really work for me.The best part of Starstation Earth is when it finally kicks in near the end,but too late I feel.Worth having for Celestine and Big Men Cry alone but if you're new to Banco I recommend Maya or Last Train to Lhasa.
