Basement Jaxx’s first proper album comes out of the gate like gangbusters. There’s the trifecta of “Rendez-Vu,” “Yo-Yo,” and “Jump N’ Shout” followed by the funky and enigmatic “U Can’t Stop Me.” The second half of the album, however, doesn’t show the same strength. The Latin stomp of “Bingo Bango” has some of that rogue spirit when it abandons its typical structure for some squealing synths. The final track, “Being With U,” once again picks up the DIY spirit that Basement Jaxx have come to embody, and it’s a perfect capper to a strong, if imperfect, album. Remedy might not treat all your symptoms, but it’ll sure make you feel better.

Basement Jaxx is an interesting concept. they mix house with drum'n'bass and the neodisco thing and have no fear to make themselves ridiculous. i think they are more 'p-funk' than others might claim themselves. some tracks are silly, some get on the listeners' nerves, but the album works. and there are two really great tracks on it: "always be there" - a dramatic dnb-house-something (with very good female vocals) that explores the frontiers of the mind, and "don't give up" which comes without a real beat.
