First heard "Security" back in late 1987 early 1988 through a friend, but didn't acquire it until 1989 when it was released on Champion records, in fact I bought two copies, that's how good I thought it was.
Wouldn't exactly call it "New Beat" myself, it's definitely electro though which appealed to the house/freestyle/techno/acid house rave heads from the 1989 era even more than the hip hop/electro heads in the UK anyway. This track was played everywhere in the underground scene.
Very rhythmic with very low-end bass frequencies and 808 beats, haunting female vocals, trippy oriental keys, hard-hitting stabs, dark but uplifting synths and ambient vox-sounds. There's even a little bit of scratching in there aswell.
It mixes well with practically every other electronic genre around the same tempo from that era too.
Spun on every pirate radio and in every rave in that period.
A classic in every sense of the word. This record will NEVER leave my collection...
