referencing Basic Data Manipulation (Tastes And Textures, Volume 2), CD, GPRCD02

Beaumont Hannant burst onto the IDM scene with _Basic Data Manipulation: Tastes and Textures, Vol. 2_, on the late and great label GPR Productions. The computer call-and-response of “Basic Dialog” sets the stage for the rest of the album, with its filtered beats and angular melodies. “Sym-phon5” contrasts a funky hip-hop rhythm to its ethereal strings, while “T-gh6493” quietly shuffles and hums. Compare that to the urgent thrum of “Sc931” or the heavy thuds of the mysterious and ominous “Anokhi.” The sharp tones that start “The Hunted” are reminiscent of sharpening knives before the pursuit begins. “Dei-form” ends the album with pounding techno, putting the D back into IDM.
