Danny Howells has knocked out a few choice cuts over the years, but this tops em all. Clattering drums halfway between post-punk and tribal house, an insistent two-beat guitar loop, a few mental synth sweeps, and a bassline to die for. For the last three minutes of this epic track, the whole thing rearranges itself nicely and gets quite spooky. Immaculately done, and one of the best tunes of the last couple of years.
As much as I love Danny, I'll admit he has a tendency to produce overly generic, slightly eclectic filler prog. This track though is a shining star in his discography. Its a weird juxtaposition of the waily vocals from Bent and his patented DeepSexyFuturisticTechFunkHouse. Emphasis is on the funk cuz just wait till you hear this bassline. Its insane, straight out of a swanky jazz lounge, you just can picture a big fat black man with a deep voice and a pot belly plucking away and hitting the deep bass notes. The bass isn't really what got me hooked on this track though, its those big ass bongos that just ROLL continouously, forever hypnotic to the point where it becomes the only element in the track that my brain hears. I dont really know why my mind fixates on certain loops in certain tracks but this is one those those that you just cannot get enough of if you're the kind of person that loves live drums. I hope to god I get to hear this one on a proper system, my life will be complete.
