Bermuda Triangle (2) - Mooger Fooger

I would have given this record a 5 if the Subway remix hadn't been on it. The Subway mix is a stinking pile of garbage for a number of reasons; mainly that it sets a mood that is completely counter to that established by the melody of mooger fooger (by incorporating electro-ish synths which sound like crap), and yet it still brings the melody in halfway through the track. It just doesn't make sense to have the pulsing electo synth going with the mooger fooger melody; it just doesn't work at all.

Another case of an incredible track being saddled with a beyond poor remix on the flip side.

Still hard to believe that no one has commented on this yet... this was a great tune all on its own, and it seemed to put Hooj back on the map for most of the folks who had unfairly written them off as being "too trancey". It's an ice-cold, superbly produced tune with resonating emotion that belies its clinical, minimal surface. Jewel-like melodies, fuzzed-out vocal samples, crisp tech-house-like drum loops, and a cavernous bassline which doesn't come in till nearly halfway through the tune. A real keeper, even if it's a devil to try to play out. The Subway remix on the flip is more like "standard" Hooj fare, but nicks that same eerie riff from the A-side... good job, that.
