Biosphere's second album, PATASHNIK, opens with a creepy sample (lifted from the film THE KRAYS), dropping you immediately into a discomfiting space. And although "Startoucher" and "Decryption" (with its samples from the film _Scanners_) levy the mood somewhat, the dark thrums of "Novelty Waves" bring you back thundering into outer space. But while you're there, you can enjoy the heartbeat rhythm and lovely drive of "Patashnik," while "Mir" lets you drift further and further out, until you've reached the uneasy area of "The Shield." "Botanical Dimensions" returns us to an earth-like place, with rainforest sounds dotting the track, and "En-Trance" brings in a gentle guitar strum to take the album out. Certainly not as moody as MICROGRAVITY, but more spacious to make up for it.

Geir Jenssen is Biosphere, Biosphere is the soundtrack to the mountains, the frozen sea, the looming winter forest. Cold landscapes and brilliantly crafted waves of sound pour out of this album.

One of his earlier works, Patashnik is full of excellent samples that fit perfectly into the world he has created for this music to live in. In his earlier works as BLEEP he worked with a lot of beats in the material, this is still evident in his earlier work as Biosphere. Not saying that all the songs have a driven line of beats, many are dreamy ladscapes that tug at your imagination.

This is defenitly a must have for any Biosphere fan, and highly reccomended for anyone into Ambient music.

A semi-trance, semi-ambient cosmic journey through Geir Jenssen's soundscapes. This was the first of Biosphere I've known and still is very dear for me. Great movie samples in English and Russian give me a "space-station" feeling in some moments. I have to say that this album is a bit uneven and I prefer the ambient "side", which later became Jenssen's speciality. Anyway, a great album to start your acquaintance with ambient in general and Biosphere in particular. And once you've fallen in love with that music, it stays with you...

''We had a dream last night'..''We had the same dream'..
More spaced out ambient techno by Geir Jenssen. As good as Microgravity i think. Later on in the 90's he will make more 'abstract' ambient music. Great (listen to Substrata, really, really good) but i prefer Patashnik and Microgravity. For me they are cornerstones of the great electronica building..

A fantastic ambient excursion into otherwordliness, from the innocenct yet somehow manacing opening track through to the delicious percussive Novelty Waves, a track made 'famous' by Levis. A benchmark album for the post-clubber.
