Björk ‎– Vespertine

According to me, there are two Björk eras musically speaking: the one from "Debut" to "Selmasongs" and the other one from "Vespertine" to the present day ("Biophilia" as I'm writing this comment). I assume that the experience of shooting the "Dancer In The Dark" movie has been some sort of an eye-opening for Björk because her music has never been the same after that.
As a Björk fan I had to adapt to that change or stop listening to her new music, which I almost did when "Vespertine" came out. I know that to many fans this record is her best one, but to me this will always be the record that I never succeeded in getting into. It took a very long time to grow on me but not enough to become more than my least favorite Björk album. It has a lot to do with the way this record is produced. Björk allowed all those little "insect" sounds to flood the music. Former standard music structure began to crack, opening the way to a more personal way of singing, leaving apart easy tunes and finding a way to express deep-rooted emotions either with sounds and noises or the voice itself.
"Vespertine" might have come ahead of its time, a landmark from which Björk never stopped digging deeper to find new ways of expressing herself through the most various forms of music.
I am grateful to "Vespertine" for that, for the direction that Björk has taken since the release of that record. But even though I got to love "Medulla", "Volta" and "Biophilia" thanks to the foundations "Vespertine" has laid, this one record remains for me an heterogeneous music experiment that I can't help loving and hating at the same time...

Does everyone elses have Unison spelt Unisona on the back cover tracklisting? If so, anyone know why?

Without a doubt the best Björk album, every angle is carefully detailed, both musically and lyrically. The whole album feels like a beautiful daydream, you just wanna lean back and let the music take over you. There's a IDM'sh feel in the drum programming, the melodies are very nice and memorable. Hard to top this one.

This is one of the best albums I've ever heard. It's my favorite album of Björk's entire (very impressive) catalog of work. I love the landscape of emotions that she explores on this one. Brilliant lyrics too -- very insightful and meaningful. Beautiful.

I was put off from this album at first, since the first single "Hidden Place" never really appealed to me for some reason I can't really put my finger on. However, after one of my favourite webradios played "Harm Of Will" a few years later, I felt as if I hadn't been giving Björk a real chance, so I bought this album. And while my feeling about it was good, I never imagined that I would be moved as deeply as this. The combo of superb talent productionwise (Matmos and Matthew Herbert are some of the names involved) and the sheer emotional power of Björk's voice makes for a breathtakingly emotive experience that I cannot believe that I missed the first time around. The standout track for me personally on this album would have to be "Cocoon", where Thomas Knak's warm and fuzzy blend of quirky sounds provides the perfect contrast to Björk's heartfelt and trembling vocals.

Björk Guðmundsdóttir, you've converted another skeptic in spite of your rather eccentric nature, and for that I salute you.

Bjork's best album. Absolutely beautiful - the lyrics and sound are perfectly entwined in each song such that they reside in their own perfectly realised situation/space. It does what all great music does - it evokes novel thoughts and feelings

This is Bjorks most recent album release and it's more beautiful than ever. Perhaps not as accessible as the last albums for the average electronic music fan, but the harmonically strained melodies and syncopated rhythms offer a very ethereal and sensual soundsdscape. In my opinion, however,Bjork cant do anything wrong!!
