Bola first atracted my attention cause I read somewhere he is a mixture between Boards of Cananda and Autechre. It is true Bola has some elements of both mentioned artists but this record has something really unique. There are layers... and layers... and layers of sound, sometimes intriguing and dark, sometimes melancholyc. IMHO the highlights of SOUP are, "Forcasa 1" and "Aguilla", the first being a nice track filled with crispy beats and soft melodies, and the second is a VERY beautiful sad track with choirs and even a short solo. This album gives you an extraterrestrial warm feel. Definitively an IDM classic.

I rememeber the first time I heard this album. Way back in 1999 (and essentially before I started listening to electronic music) I was recommended this album by a friend, who lent me his copy so I could hear it. It sat for almost a week next to my bed, and was always on my "to play" list but I never got round to it. Anyway, one morning I woke up early (about 4:00am) and was restless. I decided to listen to some music, and found this CD next to me. It completely changed everything, and I was awestruck with just how beautiful an album could sound. What really struck me was the consistancy in production quality, from the terrific opener that is "Glink", the superb melodies of the "Forcassa" trilogy, right up to the staggering beautiful "Aguila" . Needless to say, I purchased my own copy the next day. Of course, there are many other similarly essential albums out there, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Bolaman!

Amazing! I bought this last summer amidst a lot of excitement about this supposedly legendary re-release... (I didn't know much about Skam at the time) I'm very very glad I did. This is by far the best thing I've bought in the last year, Soup is beautiful. Every song is amazing, particularly the three 'Forcasa's, which are each stunning in their own way. Whoblo is an entrancing 13-minute epic that ends a masterpiece perfectly. Highly recommended to anyone into anything from Skam, Warp, etc.
