I have a lot of time for Brian Eno. There is no doubt that he has always been someone to challenge convention. His work with Talking Heads on 'Remain In Light' for example, stands as one of the most innovative statements in popular music.

I have been aware of this album for years but only picked up a copy a few months ago. Rarely will you read a bad review of it either from critics or listeners but I'm afraid I have to buck the trend. I found this to be an entirely unengaging listen. The idea of music being there simply to create a background atmosphere has been around for a long time of course. It is called Muzak! I have listened to this album several times, late at night and have given it my undivided attention and there is the problem. There is very little movement or melody to provoke any emotional involvement when you actually LISTEN to it. If I wanted to create a background ambience I could leave the tap on or buy a cockatoo!

As a lover of Ambient music I expected this to live up to the hype but please don't take my word for it - pick up a copy, just don't expend much effort listening to it...

the other side of what can happen what a man with a razor blade and a splicing board can do.
For studio trickery alone this album ranks among the classics.
Not bad for an album that was supposedly rooted in the experience of being bed ridden listening to a bum hi fi set too low.
who cares tho. put it on leave it on and leave the room

When I first heard this album, I was wondering "how could this be interesting music?" - until I read David Toops book "Ocean of Sound" where Brian Eno states he wanted to create *background* music. I never could listen to music while reading a book. I tried with this album - and it works. Absolutely amazing. My advice: do NOT listen to the music when you listen to this, and you will discover the beauty of the simplicity of this album.

This is the one of the best ambient album's in brian eno's extensive collection. All done using looped taps, very impressive for the time it was made and it continues to amaze. Also don't forget to check out Bang On A Can's live working of this album.
