Quite possibly better in terms of less-is-more when it comes to an IDM listener's sonic appetite.
I heard thus after ingesting Claro, and I must say the range of sounds here engulf a breadth of experience I hadn't yet come across. The title track is a blend of garbled hip-hop lyrics looped against broken beats and spastic drums, but with that calmness Lassi is so good at seasoning his music with. The whole cd is stand-out.

Brothomstates' QTIO EP starts off with the title track, a Funkstorung-like hip-hop piece, followed by "Jak Got Stuck in Canada and This Sounds Like," which goes in a more traditional IDM pattern, complete with an icy synth melody and crunchy beats. So you know you're in for something surprising here when the song style varies so quickly. "Loose Fit" is almost completely abstract and no less icy. But "Adozenaday" takes the cake here, a Plaid-like composition that takes a spry melody and sets it to coolly funky percussion. "Brothomstates vs. Bill Yard" takes this EP out on a mellow note, melding angular, watery melodies to a understated, frenetic rhythm. This EP is certainly varied, and that much stronger for it.

Trivia for non-Finnish speaking audience: "qtio" pronounces as "kuutio" (cube).

Adozenaday was used fairly recently in a Uk commercial for sprite. It's a fantastic track, there's a track on one of the mask series on skam/musik aus strom which is quite similar to this track.

This single is strange yet very interesting, tracks like Adozenaday really stick out because of the latest Sprite advert. I think it has to be one of the most interesting things Warp has released for a while.

Lassi Nikko has for a long time, under the alias of "Dune", been one of the most respected composers in the computer demo scene. This release truly shows his full potential with great beats, sequencer wizardry, and beatiful melodies. Highlights here are Adozenaday, Brothomstates vs. Bill Yard and Vleade. The title track, Qtio, is also a great track showing of some wicked sample manipulations. This guy truly deserves his place on Warp Records.

The track "Adozenaday" was used quite recently on a UK ad for Sprite.
Its the one with a little sprite creature sitting watching telly in a scared blokes hotel room.
