referencing This Is Compton (12", 33 ⅓ RPM) THR-22
A few facts; this is the 1st single release for CMW, & possibly the strongest cut from the debut LP. It's a bonus that Techno- Hop (& Kru- Cut) was the label, for any discerning West Coast head this is the home of some definitive early electro from the likes of Cli-N-Tell, The Unknown DJ, DJ Slip etc; most of which had an involvement with Dre's Wrecking Crew project... Anyhow, straight Hop Hop on this one, unusual up till this release on Techno-Hop in the presence of the X- Men's DJ Slip... However in 89, the tides were turning, the golden age of electro winding down, & the sound of straight- up car jacking early gangster rap moving in... Love this cut, bouncy, on point rapping & a taste of Compton Cities musical output/dominance over the following couple of years... & for those citing CMW as copy cat NWA wannabee's, think again.
