Reviews & Discussion

This to me is one incredible album. In those days I was(and still am somewhat today I suppose), a fan of good funk. And this album - from 1980 mind you - is very funky. Every song is in a slightly different vein of something rather funky - save for "the End" (of course, its in a world of its own). Some of it is slow funk, some more like love funk, a good bit of deep funk to get you down - ah, its just funky.

This album has a bit of everything. "Angel In My Pocket" is the obligatory feel-good disco track, and "The Glow Of Love" is the funky, yet soulful vocal number. For me though, the undisputed classic from this album is "The End". A space-age, lazer-dance instrumental with possibly the most infectious melody ever recorded. It has typical 80's flamboyancy, yet is equally reserved and understated. This track was truly ahead of its time, and still sounds fresh some 25 years after its release. A huge recommendation.

Well, opposite to the above two comments i think the whole album is beautiful. My personal favorite is "Searching". A haunting electronic track which could easily be a clubbers soundtrack. On old Larry Levan tapes i've heard "It's A Girl Affair" and " Angel In My Pocket" pass by and "A Lover's Holiday" reminds me of a beautiful summer back in the eighties. "The End" is a electronic masterpiece used a lot by radio piratestations. "The Glow Of Love" makes me want to light the candles. Perhaps this record isn't a coherent whole but it is a colourful mix of different tastes from the dancescene. An icon to me.

The reason I bought this one was for the track "The Glow Of Love", Cool 80's Disco with Luther Vandross on vocals and a fat cheezy hook. Check out the 12" singel if you want the extended version. Otherwise not a very good LP!

Most of this album is smooth, mainstream, radio-friendly disco. Very dated, in my opinion, and not really my thing. The reason I have this, though, is for the last track. 'The End' is an amazing space-disco instrumental. It compares with the best work of Giorgio Moroder, Ganymed, Space, Laser, Harry Thumann, Automat, etc.
