Reviews & Discussion

One day, gangsta Rapper Scholly D. was watching one of the American Football League finals on TV and suddenly saw a TV advertisement with "Block Rockin Beats" by Chemical Brothers as a soundtrack; he immediately jump off the couch and shout something like "M.F., these are my vocals!".

The Chemical Brothers tune 'Block Rockin' Beats' sampled Schooly D.'s vocals from "Gucci Again" indeed and brought full-energy Breaks & serious Rap elements to their type of Electronic Music; its funky basslines & beats were taken from the Industrial band 23 Skidoo on "Coup".

It sometimes is strange when you find a record you dismissed
many years ago, suddenly work its way into a pile of records and you are dumbstruck on how you missed it. This is almost 8 years old as I write this review. "Block Rockin' Beats" is one of those Chemical Brothers records that made them well known, and one that was the definition of 'electronica', a term that grabbed hold of the mainstream before trance and did not really appeal to the
underground. So to find a double sided Micronauts remix was a bit weird. Anyone who has heard the French Duo Micronauts, might agree that remixing The Chemical Brothers would be the most radical makeover any remixer could take on as a project.
Micronauts small remix catalog (Underworld, Apollo 440) all had a
distinct sound. Sonic Infused Grimey Techno. The problem with the Nauts sound was the BPM's were always in the low 120's. In your face hard and nasty, I think people were never really ready for this sound. But it works so well. This is just another example.
