Review by molecularentropy Dec 21, 2010
"DMT Cowboys" is amazing. It is a records unlike any other that I have ever heard. For me, listening to this album is a spiritual experience. I can only call it "Masterful", as it is.

1. Tales From The Otherworld sets the feeling for the rest of the album. It is a blissful track and features the voice of none other than Terrance McKenna; yes, he's a little overused in this genre, but it's very well done. It is an intro track that puts you in the mood for the rest of the record.
2. The Spirit Molecule is genius. This full-on melodic number is high energy, with sweeping harmonies and an element that is unique to Chromosome, which is featured in just about every track on this album. That being said, it is interesting to note that The Genome Project, the other Chromosome album, is very different.
3. Reality Engineer is a faster track with more bite. Slightly less soulful and more fire-powered (has more punch). Again, sheer genius. It takes many different stylistic shifts throughout the course of the track. Some musicians I've spoken to do not like this, saying it's inconsistent. I love it. I think it shows variety, while keeping the track flowing beautifully from one style to the next.
4. Vaporized And Confused is mind-bending. I really don't have the words to explain this track. Just go and listen to a sample; then buy the album.
5. Am I In The Matrix? takes you through more musical ideas than I have the vocabulary to explain. It's a combination of melody, acid, harmony, exploding lower registers and shrilling upper range beauty.
6. Human Structures is perhaps the only real downer of the album. The album, up until this track, follows a very clear and consistent progression. This track is more along the lines of the material from The Genome Project. Mind you, it's still reasonably good, but the buildup is a little lost here. It's traditional psy, without the nice voice work that this album has in general.
7. I absolutely loved Talpa's album The Art of Being Non, which is where the track The Moon came from. But this... this is even better! Chromosome's remix takes a fantastic number and makes it so superbly fantastic that it's amazing this track even exists. A much more beautiful bass-line, great use of the original vocals and original synthesized sounds in a remix that not only revamps a classic, but makes it so much better than the original, and few remixes do that for me.
8. Daydreaming is awe inspiring. This is a very deep track with layers so expertly compiled that it has taken me over a year of listening to it and I'm still discovering new parts I haven't noticed.
9. Lucid Illusions is a life-changer. I'm not talking about the Star Trek quotation they have used, although that is brilliant in itself, but the sheer composition of the track. It has the most delicious thematic melody. It's hard to describe. I cried the first time I heard this track, it hits me on a profound level.
10. Winding down with Valmorphication is nothing short of breathtaking. For me it was a little sad for this album to end. Still, it ends in style, as this track is too, fantastic. The first half is faster with operatic vocals, while the second half is slower and more chilled out, with a sample stolen directly from Enigma. The Enigma vocal used is one of the best uses of this vocal sample that I have ever heard.

I give this album 9.5/10, with the half-mark dropped for Human Structures.
