Stunning release from Claro. I bought it for the mellow analoguey sound of the A1 but ended up really getting off the A2 as well. The A2 sounds like Knee-Cam version 2.0 slowed down a bit. No doubt techno viking would be throwing shapes and knocking people's heads around
It is worth owning this EP for the title track alone. Simple chords and one heavy bass drum sound lends 'Chicago' a distant, slightly haunted atmosphere almost as if it had originated from an abyss. Then a couple of minutes in this robotic bass line from the depths creeps in which, if you hear it loud enough, should probably stop you in your tracks. Menacing, stark and industrial but with enough warmth to engage in. House, Techno, Electro people should all find something oustanding about this EP since it is a perfect marriage of Chicago, Detroit and Berlin influences but the results are something strangely unique. A perfect definition of machine soul and one seriously overlooked talent.
