It wouldn't be unfair to say that a lot of people who grew up through the techno explosion in the 90's have become somewhat sentimental about the music from that era when stood against the dominant styles around now. And this 12" is as good a reason why as any. Quality runs throughout the whole record, but if there is one track that really demonstrates how comparitively bland, empty and desperately missing the old magic and atmosphere nu-minimal is, then 'The Opening' is it. No gimmicks or done to death glitches and ripped off Basic Channel sounds here - only the fullest, darkly enchanting sounds from a musical time when the future still seemed like a wondrous technological playground and not an everday cliched commodity. Sigh.
