If all you've heard of Combichrist is the later work, then you're missing a real gem with this album. In fact, this album is by far the best thing LaPlegua has ever put out, even if it's in a slightly different vein than the rest of the releases under this alias. Gone are the clichéd club hooks and so-bad-it's-funny attempts at being evil; in its place, well-crafted rhythms, distorted beats, and a highly original yet still danceable work of rhythmic noise. Take a listen to "Winteryear" or "Turmoil" to see what I'm talking about. It's hard to imagine where the man who made this album went, but it's sure not the same guy who made "Everybody Hates You" or anything after.
