Concept 1 ‎– Concept 1 - 96:CD

For me this is the origin of what most people today call minimal, although it is much more experimental. I love the long hypnotizing tracks that almost put you into a trance if you really focus on the sharp, edgy sounds woven through the tracks. Really deep basslines make your body tremble if you play it at a decent volume or at a club. Mr Hawtin, thank you for making this music. A perfect hybrid for me between minimal, experimental and dub techno, a great release.

Concept 1, composed by Richie Hawtin, marks a year long correlation between musical development and the progression of time. The original series of 12 monthly twelve-inch singles comprised of 24 tracks, was strictly limited to 2000 copies per release. As with the music, the stripped down product design evolved into a finalized identity. The highly sought after final release (12:96) was packaged in a special custom box (limited to 1000) to hold all twelve singles. The music was a timely emission of that moment- each single was usually composed just weeks prior to its release.
This compilation is a reflection of the body of work within those twelve months of development. Only listeners who collected the project during the time of release will be able to see the full picture of Concept 1. 96:CD contains one bonus track in addition to previously unreleased movements from the original sessions. The compilation is a continuous custom mix by Richie Hawtin. 96:CD is not a permanent release.
