Reviews & Discussion

referencing The Message, 7", J 203

One of Cymande's most well known classics, "The Message" reached the status of top-influential music (alongside "Dove" and "Bra"), affecting the lifes of countless artists since then. "The Message" became part of several major compilations like "Got To Get Your Own (Some Rare Grooves)", "Essential Funk Classics Volume 1", "Cutmaster Swift Presents The Breaks II", "Mega Disco Funk", "The Funk Box", just to mention some - and reached the status of primal reference for Breakers, Junglists, Rapers and clubbers all around.
'Cymande - The Message' was sampled by artists from the range of Brothers Like Outlaw to MC Solaar, King T, Kings Of Swing, Masta Ace, RRA, & The Coup, consolidating its importance through the next couple of decades.

On the other side, "Zion I" was as well sampled (Cash Crew, Zhigge) which makes this 7 inch release one of the hottest spread from Cymande first LP's tunes. If you have the chance, try to find this one and the one with "Bra" and "Rastafarian Folk Song". Highly recommended.
