Who doesnt love house of god? This track grooves like nothing else. People always whitter on about the unholy version, but man, the 50 dollar mix just blows me away. But thats not it. Finally got a copy yesterday, had a quick listen to the second ep (holo-voodoo et al), and dismissed it. Picked it up today, had a listen before confining it to a kind of vinyl limbo, and i tell you, those tracks are RAW. Bad acid is seriously off the wall, and holo voodoo has me laughing my ass off. Brilliantly creative mindblowing stuff. Ignore these tracks at your own stupidity, theyre dirty, seriously funky, and ridiculously inventive.

Thanks for stopping by Phonique & Martin Landsky, now could you get the fck out of here with those flat polka mixes you did of an already too remixed classic. I know the label is Polka Flat but these two remixes may have well been polka, added by the fact that they were awfully flat. Once you clear the air with these really uninspired detours, there comes Ben Stokes as your last hope and yes. We have a winner here, folks. Twenty years after the original producer Ben Stokes delivers a fine twist to a multi pile-up of lackluster remixes which does give this release credibility. Thank you. Ben Stokes for the win people.
Put this on one side by itself with the Ortin Cam remix out now on Missile, and you have a must have. That's all folks.

This record contains a DJ Isaac remix which was the predecessor to the single "Beat The Silence / On The Edge" and his infamous "Thriller 2002." You can really hear the typical "Isaac" hardstyle sound being born on this remix. Before this track, he worked on Banji Boyz - Free Florida and you can hear the influences spilling over. This remix is one that really pushed the envelope when hardstyle split off from German hard trance. I think this track is often overlooked because it does not have the stuttered cut-up vocals but there is some vocal play with the "House of God" sample. Knowingly or unknowingly, DJ Isaac was creating a unique sound, which was comprised of a hard snappy compressed kick with a pulsing off-beat bassline that literally pumped the speakers.

The Surgeon remix brings back that good old euphoric "damn" feeling. Hard to descibe, but surgeon' s typical sour, harsh, acid-like touch in this all time classic makes this a great marriage with a ten-year age difference.

In 1991, the german DJ icon Sven Väth used "The house of god" for an own, short jingle in the legendary HR 3 Clubnight radio series. He imitated the preacher's voice of the track with his striking voice by using the german words "...die Hausaufgaben". This sounds quite similar to the english pronunciation of "The house of god" and it simply means "...to do your homework"! In spite of the fact, that this tune is at any rate a milestone in the history of techno, I paradoxially have to think of this sappy joke first, when I listen to it.:)

It has somehow been able to transform itself into timeless classic. Now going on 16 years, D.H.S. still sounds good coming out of a stack of speakers. The one thing I notice more then anything else is that anytime there is a dancefloor full of people and you drop this, the crowd always embraces it. I don't care if you are in the trediest spot in Ibiza with a handbag crowd, drop D.H.S. the crowd will cheer it on. No rhyme or reason why, it's just a good track and a good record. Always has been.

Great release here, considering the fact that so many different bases are covered. Firstly, included is the original version from 1991, which, still, is hard to surpass in greatness. Harlem Hustlers provide a tantalizing, dark, tribal/tech-house remix which is really good, and old-schoolers Holy Noise provide a very hard 'UK Hard House' type remix, which in its own right is pretty damn good if you dig that style. Another worthy remix here is the Sound Force remix, which borrows loops and sounds from Jason Nevins' famous remix of "It's Like That" by Run-DMC. Sound Force uses the same hard house loop and horn hits, along with signature effects from that Nevins remix. Makes a great mix going from one of those two releases to the other, being so identical in nature. Overall, a pretty solid remix package.

This track will tear down all barriers of conciousness and experience and place your being in a new stratosphere of enlightenment seriously one of the hardest most gripping and energizing tracks I have ever heard. For me this is the epitome of the 90's wharehouse and basement movement. This track will shine for all-time...

A very early UK rave classic!
Hard (for it's time), dark and very bent with a more belgian sound.
On the second record you will find some old electro beat techno.
All in all a milestone release for the Uk scene which was caught in a hardcore breakbeat loop in 1990.
"House of God" was huge in Belgium and this record was re-issued on R&S.
Has one of the ugliest picture sleeves in Techno history of a badly hand-drawn 'hangman' stick figure.
