This CD is an amazing portrait of its era. To call it sparse or minimalist is a bit misleading; the beats are solid and intriguing, but to the point and alive. To call it the kissing cousin of trip-hop would be fair. This is what you listen to when you're focused on something and need to cut the frills out of the situation.
As an added treat, there's a song featuring Black Thought of the Roots fame, and another featuring El-P from his Company Flow days; a definite pleasure for all you Def Jukies out there.

One of the best downtempo hip-hop albums I've ever heard. Sometimes a bit to minimalistic maybe, nevertheless a true milestone and a testamony to the musical genius of DJ Krush. Check "Dig this vibe" for one of the bluntest beats ever.
