Quote from the labels:
Centuries ago, before the coming of the conquerors, the Aztec Mystics ruled an empire larger than what is now known as Mexico. The symbol of their power was the Jaguar, the powerful creature that stalked the jungles just outside of their monumental cities. In todays world, the Aztec civilization lies in ruins. Their temples and tombs have been desecrated and their power animal, the Jaguar has almost been hunted to extinction. Despite the encroachment of Western civilization, untold power and awareness yet lie within these ruins and the spirit of the Jaguar.
To desecrate these ruins and this spirit would be harmful to modern man. For these are things that are beyond the perception of modern world. Legends foretold of the greatest of the Aztec Mystics vowing vengeance on anyone who violated their temples and totems. This warrior society used their most powerful totem as their symbol, they were known as the Knights of the Jaguar.
Even now in the new millenium, the long dead Jaguar Knights can sense the violation of their symbols and spirits. Using the Jaguar as their spirit guide to travel through the realms of Death itself, they can stalk their prey through time and exact their ultimate vengeance.

I remember Submerge having the Sony letter of apology up on their website for a while - that was great to see, they even admitted that their re-creation of the original track lacked any of the vibe that made them want to do it in the first place. Ha-ha-corporate fools.

From what I remember reading, Sony tried to "steal" this track and remix it into a club trance version. After sending threatening letters to UR, Sony gave up and sent the remixed version over to BMG. The project apparently died after that. I don't know if this is all, if any, true.

I don't think we can speak about any "hype", as UR never asked for it.

Musicaly, I would say that the original's still far better, but how to remix such a piece? Let's take that 12" as an "exercice de style", and a legitimate, honest and musical response to the blacksploitation (c) Sony-white-dance-division in Germany.

But Remember, I'm Afrogermanic...

Three remixes of the track that spawned a war between UR and Sony. Jeff Mills mix is given an entire side and includes two 'loops' which make for quite the plaything if you grab two copies. Flip side has the Mad Mike and Lawrence Burden mixes, which are a little more interesting, but don't give you nearly as much to play around with. After all the hype I had somewhat elevated hopes for this one, but I'm still not entirely sold on the track itself, but then, most people tell me I've got no soul.
