These originals that you're all talking about (let's also include Mr. Oizo's recent "Patrick122" on EdBangers) are just simply all based on the 1978 funk track "Do It At The Disco" by Gary's Gang (hence the titles "Gary's Groove", "Doing it in Frisco" and so on).
So if we have to consider this or that as remixes of something, let's say "of Gary's Gang !".
And what I'm writing right now is only to reach the quota of words, as we all know there must be at least 75 words (which is quite long) to post a comment.
"Did it at the Disco" is OBVIOUSLY a remix of Garys Groove, it was released years ago on deepfunk, and only recently reissued on amenti. I would guess "Did it at the disco" probably began life as something sneak personalized for his own sets, and was popular enough to get its own release. it is much more of a peaktime track than the original, which while unforgettable, lacks a certain energy. Just listen to Mark Farinas layering it with a big Kerri Chandler kick for his "house of OM" mix cd. If this remix is going to destroy anything, my guess is that it would be a dancefloor.
I like this record a lot, but this is really a strange copy of "Olivier Desmet & Chuck Diesel - Gary's Groove", but the "house music original" is from Gene Farris back in the days on Cajual Records. I still like Gene´s version the most, but Sneaks version is really a little bit too close to "Olivier Desmet & Chuck Diesel - Gary's Groove". So, it´s all just a copy in a way!?! And for sure there was a Disco ORIGINAL before as well!
