When I first heard this amazing but agressive track a smile was seen on my face. There were was rave signals I didn't heard for a while. Another must have record I thought. And I was right so often. Everytime I played it loud for the people the whole crowd started to explode and the whole floor was burning. Forget the B-Side. It is an average track. But the A-Side is a straight shooter and a powerfull weapon for technomaniacs.

HOLY CRAP...........I don't believe it, this tune HAS actually blown out my bass bin! I was looking at the discogs comments on this tune and thought I'd give it a listen before selling it, and it's actually damaged the subwoofer on my surround system. I can't believe it, I was literally just reading about this tune damaging soundsystems, now everything sounds farty and broken! The Bass EQ on my mixer was (only) slightly up, but even so, this has never happened before. This is going to cost me a fortune to fix, and much more than the few quid that I can sell this for...

I am not happy...

Great tune, heavily overplayed thanks to UK radio stations.

CHECK YOUR LEVELS carefully before playing, or you may end up with a totally busted soundsystem like mine.

I picked this out of my collection the other week (playing the Rework as always) and it still sounds as good as it did in May 2003 when I listened to it in the record store I bought it from.
I remember then thinking the Rework would make the crossover to the hard house scene and knock me sideways, I first heard Anne Savage play it at Slinky, Opera House one fine Friday night in July that same year.

It is THE track of 2003 that can still hold its own over three years later.

Mixmag first introduced me to the love affair I have with the B side of Jasper Dählback and Thomas Krome’s ‘Murder Was The Bass’. Featured in their top 10 traxx of 2003, I thought I might download the ‘Reworked’ version just to hear it. Described as a “techno bassbin destroyer”, I first thought I had a bad mp3 because of a deep fuzzy growling noise through the song. Later I found that this was actually the bassline! Skip forward a month of playing this song over and over on my mp3 player, and I went to Cairns in Australia for a holiday. Here I went to a small but friendly dance music store, only to promptly find a single vinyl copy of ‘Murder Was The Bass’. After settling myself down and attempting to describe the track to the workers there, one employee played the track on the loud speakers through out the store. Merely thirty seconds later, a young male swiftly entered the store, asked what the song was and bought the vinyl before I even had a chance. To my dismay, I have never seen a copy since! Twisted, dirty and utterly hypnotising, the ‘Reworked’ version is still one of my favourite traxx ever and changed the way I saw Techno forever. The sequential hi-hats and builds are superb, not to mention the immense breakdown. Tune!

The rework is pure filth...here's a few words best used to describe this track...evil, dark, brooding, filthy. This track is downright wrong....which is why i play it in all of my techno sets!

One track guaranteed to pack a floor and destroy it in the process!

The bass is employed "on" the kick (instead of on the off-beat on most dance tracks), this makes for a very aggressive vibe.

Most people seem to say the original is best, but there seems to be some confusion here. The Original is the breakbeat "rave" sounding side, it is the Re-Work that is the techno track.

Best crossover release of 2003. Not as hard to find as you'd think, but some still have trouble grabbing a copy. Shows ya how much everyone likes this song. Careful when playing this song out, it has been known to blow out subs before, no lie! Don't piss off the sound technician.
