This Daft Punk album is the type you can listen to from beginning to end. Every song is just amazing and tells a story that you mind can process. For samplebusters, this album has many sample still yet to be discovered (hence the title).
Samples include:
Cola Bottle Baby-Harder Better Fast Stronger
I love You More-Digital Love
Can You Imagine-Crecendolls
Many more.
Songs like, High Life, Aerodynamic, Voyager, never get old. Many sample busters would all love the fact that the High Life and Too Long have yet to discovered samples.

With Discovery, Daft Punk leave their acid house roots behind and delve more into 70's disco and synthpop. The result is a fresh combination of disco and house and leaves a lasting impression.

Most of the songs are based or includ3e samples from many 70's songs, even the first song "One More Time" sounds like it wouldn't be out of place in a disco during the 70's. Many guest artists do vocals work, such as Romantony and some works show a heavy rock influence as well, but with a twist. Aerodynamic contains a guitar arpeggio throughout which makes the basis of the song while Digital Love contains a very cool buzzy synth solo, close to sounding like a real guitar but there are give-aways.

Overall Discovery is a very enjoyable album with wide appeal. Sadly it raised the bar so high that Daft Punk disappointed many new fans with the release of the slightly over-repetitive and minimalistic Human After All.

In my opinion, this is simply one the greatest house albums of all times. everyone who complains about "daft punk went mainstream" probably only listened to the imo terrible "one more time" and stopped listening. but there are 13 (!) more tracks on this masterpiece to discover! i loved "homework", but dare i say it sounds just a little dated to me nowadays, while "discovery" stands out for me as the peak of daft punk's career.

When i wanted to choose tracks from "discovery" for a long house set, i had serious problems to limitate because there were at least 4 tracks i really felt i should play (harder..., short circuit, face to face, too long).

"Too long" with the beautiful voice of romanthony sounds to me like a modern version of his classic "wanderer" with beat.

i really felt in love with this magical album, no matter if it is for club-use or home listening...

Daft Club, an internet based site that allowed fans to listen - not to download - new tracks and unreleased Daft Punk mixes, was the only real failure of "Discovery". To enter Daft Club, you had to buy a copy of "Discovery", which contained a card with a code number.
The only track freely distributed online was "Overture". Also only available for PC Users, Daft Punk invited MAC users to search on "Napster" to get "Overture", which was a total contradiction with the concept of Daft Club, originally conceived as an alternative to Napster. Finally available for all PC and MAC (months after the initial release date of the album), the Daft Club ultimately vanished and all tracks went to be commercially released on the compilation "Daft Club".
Another interesting anecdote: weeks before the official release of "Discovery", many fake Daft Punk tracks circulated on peer to peer networks. One of them was called "Vietnam", another one was called "Pierre Stupide" (using all sorts of samples, including old advertisements). To the question "What do you think of all the fake tracks labelled as yours on the Internet?", Thomas Bangalter answered "Who say we didn't conceived these tracks ourselves?".

Ok, all in all, it's a great album, light, fresh, easy, with an irreproachable production...

BUT, most people don't know that there's big big samples on it. HarderBFS is the biggest one here. Just listen to the original, "Edwin Birdsong - Cola bottle baby", and you'll understand that Daft Punk is the great swindle of electronic.

But it stays good when it comes with the manga (Interstella 5555)
Keep listening

After Homework, it was hard to make a better or equal work. But that's Daft Punk, they can surprise you easily (like Human After All). With a happier sound than Homework, the duo managed to make an equal (in success, not in sound) work. Except "Veridis Quo" and "Superheroes", I can give 5 stars to every track. Discovery is such a good album that you can listen to it 4-5 years after its release without any boring moment. Among these beautiful tracks, "Aerodynamic" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" are my favourites.

I don't believe I can fully describe my disappointment with this record. As much as I loved 'Homework' this record set the stage for a definitive turn in not only the Daft Punk career but the genre of filtered/disco house and thus opened the door for such genre's as "Prydz house". While the production is at times superb...the tracks themselves are utterly dripping with cheese and honestly when I first heard 'One More Time' I thought it was a Cher remix. Where Homework had its feet in the roots of what was once the underground, this record embraced 80's cheese pop and held hands with it and skipped through a mindless musical land of excess and repitition that quite truly made me nauseous. It spawned many a moniker for the fallen heroes including the all too familiar "Crap Junk". Some may say this is too harsh a review and of course it is only my humble oppinion but there is no way that this record will stand the test of time. I'll do my "Homework" anytime.

I will attempt to review this album independent from "Homework." (Because I don't agree with people who tell me this one isn't as good.)

The opening isn't that interesting, because I must have heard "One More Time" one too many times. However, everthing else conforms to what disco should be about. Daft Punk goes through different textures and sounds, sometimes making the music quite agressive, to cooling it down with some ambient pads, and then just going awesomely funky. I especially like the tracks "Digital Love," "High Life," "Voyager," and "Face To Face" because they really take the ideas of disco and updating them slightly. A lot of modern house seems way too machine driven to be fun-sounding, because they sound so serious. However, these couple of tracks sound so organic, so human, so fun, so groovy, so thick and juicy. There are some others that are pretty good like "Harder Better Faster Stronger," "Veridis Quo," and "Short Circuit" that sound more machine-driven. "Nightvision" and "Something About Us" are beautiful, quiet, chill tracks that deserve some listening to.

I think this is a great CD. Get it.

In my guess it's one of the best albums, which I have heard in my life. First I started listening to 'One More Time'. It was a time when I didn't have the cassette yet. Then I saw 'Digital Love' on TV. Only once, but still I loved that. About year later I found the third single of Daft Punk. It was 'Harder Better Faster Stronger'. Then I knew that I need this and I bought cassette from shop. First I just listened to the first four tracks, which were amazing and that's why I thought the other songs are pointless, because I wasn't very keen on them at the beginning. Then I put it away for almost a year.
Daft Punk theme got back to my life when a film called 'Interstella 5555' was made. It was real lovely film and all Daft Punk videos were mixed together there. Then I started to like other songs from that album too and today I still believe it's really so good that I remember it in all my lifetime.

CD came as a limited edition with a Daft Punk membership card (looks like a credit card), that enabled the buyer to log on to the Daft web site and access other new media.
