Reviews & Discussion

Review by flamman Nov 26, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)
Disc 1 is chilled out indeed; very good selection of tracks and blending well into another...Disc 2 however, I found quite disappointing: although there are several good tracks on it, I can't help but thinking that the mixing is very uninspired and it also somehow feels lacking in deepness. All things said, this is the only Danny Howells cd that has ever disappointed me...he remains a brilliant DJ!

Danny Howells is one of the true chameleons of the dance music scene, as you never know what to expect when he gets behind the decks. From the laid back subtlety of his Nocturnal Frequency disc, to the tech-trance feel of his first GU undertaking, Nu Breed; Danny is a genre rejecting music lover of the first degree. On this double release, he takes us on another journey to the smooth and soothing side of his personality. Disc one is a blissful collection of (almost ambient) groves for late night contemplation. Showing off his taste and style, Danny includes tracks from Kaito (Release Your Body), DJ Shadow (You Can’t Go Home Again) and Sideshow (Sound of Today) and keeps it chilled to the utmost. On the second CD, he picks things up several notches and drops some funky house (Iz and Diz), wistful tech house (Vince Watson) and moving progressive (Dibaba) to coax your foot to tap. And as the delightful strains of Sambou by Laurent Garnier drift out of your speakers, you know Danny has so much more energy and power to offer. But on this occasion, atmosphere and style rule the day.
