An inspired, memorable mix that is almost entirely track selection and compilation.

No knob-twiddling trickery- in fact not a few of the mixes are technically very weak- but somehow thanks to the supreme tracks he's chosen and his compositional acumen, it's a true journey- which can only be said about the best mixtapes/CDs.

I say inspired because I think that Dave Angel is, generally, a bit self-absorbed and overrated. But any guy who puts two Dan Curtin tracks on a mix can't be half bad, right? And any way you slice it, if you enjoyed deep, melodic techno in the early 90's you should listen to this CD.

X-Mix 4 "Beyond the Heavens" is certainly one of the most important contributions from the master Dave Angel. At that time, most precisely in 1995, he had an gorgeous repertoire with clear Detroit sounds influences, from Kenny Larkin's 'Soul Man' to his personal tracks, deeply inspired by the Techno pioneers from the Motor City. With incredible good taste for music, he choosed very special tracks, from the deep introspective techno to the more dancefloor funky and sophisticated, many of them with beautiful drop outs.
