I just heard Vague Visions on a mix from ToniHC entitled DubbyDub and Vague Visions is a track I have longed to find out more about for a decade now. It has some powerful chords and offbeat timing for the chord stabs that make this a hypnotic techno masterpiece. One of the all time great tunes but surely buried by how much was released at the time and how quickly the techno sound was progressing and evolving into garbage, leaving songs like this left in the dust like an ancient artifact waiting to be found by someone like me with an interest in classic techno productions.
its the kind of track that sets minimal techno in a league of its own. simple at the start, but midway thru the track the synth filters are opened up and the hihats shuffle with ferocity and break thru the mix, fostering some heightened emotions for a high point of the track but with subtle touches that techno heads would appreciate. the tune twiddles back down to something of a feel good techno solid state of being and simmers into a heart warming experience by the tracks end. simple but effective, among the great tunes from Rob Hood, Dan Bell, Richie Hawtin, etc. sad to see a song like this almost lost in the files of discogs... its a complete monster of a track and just an excellent piece of work.
