Notes

Cat# is not to be confused with UNDJ A CD 01 - Kimball Collins United DJ's Mix..

This release is often confused as to the label - it is on DMC Publishing, from their offices in Slough, UK.
United DJ's Of The World is the compilation series 'title', which later became better known as United DJ's Of America.
Track 2.01 is incorrectly listed as "Volume 4".

Reviews & Discussion

Rated 3/5
Review by Vinyl-is-The-future Feb 19, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
I'm a huge fan of both David Morales and Frankie Knuckles, so eagerly purchased this the other month. However, I have to say that it's a real dissapointment.

The David Morales mix in particular is very weak. Some of the track selections are questionable (The inclusion of the Morales-produced "Congo" - a mediocre track - seems especially self-indulgent) and for me, the mix never really gets off the ground. There is too much of a focus on choopy-beat mixing and it definatley sounds like Progressive House gone bad.

Fairing better is the Frankie Knuckles mix. The track selections are far stronger here, I especially love The Secret Life record "Love So Strong", and also the Deep Dish-remixed "The Dream". This is a much less ragged, more enjoyable mix, full of deep, danceable house grooves.

Overall, this wasn't the essential release I thought it would be. I don't know why it doesn't work - but something is definatley off. Some of the weak track selections are to blame IMO, and some of the mixing isn't the best.

Dissapointing, especially considering Morales and Knuckles' usually outstanding output and thier steller reputation.
