Reviews & Discussion

Clicks & cuts & melodies: that's the best way to describe Scott Herren's debut album as Delarosa and Asora, AGONY PART 1. The project itself is less organic than Savath & Savalas, less hip-hop oriented than his Prefuse 73, but has its stamps of both. The digital blipping of "Wiffle" quietly builds into some breaks, while "Two Hum" is content to stay quiet and delicate. "Agony" is a machine-age love lament. The "Paz Suite" flows seamlessly from on part to the next: "Suite 1" has a chorus of disembodied voices to sing its praises of the melancholy piano of "Suite 2." The pieces get increasingly abstract, with "Suite 3" bringing in some heavier percussion, and "Suite 4" aggressive enough to sound like an outtake from Herren's Prefuse 73 days -- if it weren't for the recurrance of the voices from "Suite 1" and the gentle guitar that takes the track out. Finally, "Elodie 2" piles on the percussion and the long, plaintative tones. Agony? Think again.

In my opinion, the Delaros project from Herren is the best one to date. There is some very imaginative material on this album, that still has to be met up with. some of this is reminiscent of mouse on mars, but there are numerous elements of soul throughout. A nice album to chill to.

This cd is a mixture of Prefuse 73 and Savath & Savalas. Very glitchy and clicky all the way through with the melodic tones of Savath. If you are a Scott Herren fan you will enjoy this. Paz Suite 3 is my favorite track...
