Reviews & Discussion

Review by realmdemagic Jan 02, 2008
This is Depeche Mode's second effort and the first under the direction of Martin Gore since Vince Clarke's departure. This record takes a more darker approach than its predecessor, only containing two light hearted tracks that resemble the first album (The Meaning of Love & A Photograph of You). The rest ventures into cryptic themes and explorations of new synth sounds. The album ranges with bleak minimalistic themes (Monument, Satellite, Shouldn't Have Done That) as well as complex anthems (See You, Nothing To Fear, My Secret Garden). All in all, this is a very good record. Although the sounds and studio techniques are a little dated by today's standards, Martin's song shine brighter than ever. 4.5/5
