Minimal is a term that's been thrown about willy-nilly -- does Dettinger's _Intershop_ fall in that category? I think it leans more towards ambience than minimalism, although the quiet looped percussion and ever-growing layers of sound definitely relies on minimalist techniques. The warm rumblings of the second track settle easily onto your consciousness, while the hiss and crackle of the third track lulls you into submission before the sharp snap of the percussion kicks in. The long, ringing tones of the 5th track are heavenly, but Dettinger offsets that with a a click drum that helps ground the track. But that combination of rhythm and tone works better on the 6th track, where the swelling hums and whistles are accompanied by some nice syncopation. Oddly, though, the final track shoots straight into outer space -- it hints at some cool Detroit frequencies. An interesting track, certainly, but it feels out of place amongst the others. Still, _Intershop_ is plenty warm and inviting -- call it minimal if you must.

When i first popped this cd in after a last summer crate digging session, my first impression was another good ambient album but not mindblowing must of not had a clear head or something. Because when i did a trip to the ex-soviet republics in Central-Asia i gave this album a second listening chance while our bus did a long ride from Dashogus (Turkmenistan) to the border of Uzbekistan it almost blew me out of my seat.. His pure minimalistic ambient and spacy sounds fitted well together with the empty roads, dramatic, beatifull mountain and dessert landscapes of Turkmenistan.. For me defenitly 5/5 for mister dettinger's lush album

Dettinger brings you some quality ambient electronica with Intershop, this is really gorgeous stuff. I noticed it was filed under minimal, which I half agree with... it has a sound reminiscent of minimal music, but the production is anything but. All seven tracks are gorgrously layered, lush, dense productions. Think "Loess - 3D Concepts Part 2" or even "Yasume - Where We're From The Birds Sing A Pretty Song"

One of my favourite releases on Kompakt, up there with "In Moll" worthy of Kompakt, and worthy of your record collection as well... Pick this up.
