"Safe Trip Home" totally took me by surprise. I had purchased "No Angel", the first album by Dido, when it came out in 1999. After one of its songs, "Thank You", became the song-you-grew-to-hate through its merciless overexposure, I figured I had quite enough of her to last me a lifetime. I only sought out "Safe Trip Home" because of a contribution by Brian Eno on one of its songs, "Grafton Street". As it turns out, just about the entire album is sublime. No less than four of its songs, "Grafton Street," "Look No Further," "The Day Before the Day" and "Northern Skies", have immediately moved to my list of favorite songs ever. The arrangements, production and recording on all of the tracks are flawless. The lyrics, vocals and musicianship here mark Dido as a true artist. Trust me, this is not an album for the teens and pre-teens who lapped up "Thank You" in light of its being played in the backgrond on some insipid WB network show! Dido, forgive me!
