Remixes takes tracks from The Dining Rooms’ first two albums (though primarily from the first) and gives them the Italian remix treatment. Most of the mixes stay faithful to the spirit of the originals (the Spy Story mix of “M. Dupont” too much so), if not the rhythms: The Dub Noir mix of “Cinemaroma 2” transforms the track into dubbed out weirdness; the Bedroom Rockers mix of “Occhi Neri” goes all-out house; the Air Lab mix of “Maria” is lounge ambience. The Dining Rooms also deliver two new tracks to open and close the album: a lugubrious tribute to Lenny Bruce, “Lenny the Stereo Hip,” and the saxophone-driven “Ida.” A great companion to The Dining Rooms’ original albums.
