I guess if I had to choose, "A Short Album About Love" would have to my favorite Neil Hannon album. It's too short, I wish it would "go on, and on, and on". Perhaps this marked a period in his life when he fell in love hard. It's passionately, deliriously romantic, totally over-the-top and that's what makes it feel so heartfelt and moving. The songs are beautifully crafted gems with full orchestral backing, and he always had a way with melody and wry humor anyway. But the main calling card The Divine Comedy is the magnificent voice of Mr. Hannon. In my many years of listening, for me only two singers let it go with such full throated passion - and Neil Hannon is one of them.
