This is agog electro - anxious to the concrete bones. In the field of "must-own" post '96 electronic music, this is the main course.

Dopplereffekt are pioneering and groundbreaking in the underground Detroit techno scene and this album is no different. There are things going on in some of these tracks that I have never heard before. Each and every track brings something new to the table. The album will certainly take a few listens and is not recommended for people new to the Techno scene, but this is a fantastic piece of work and definately one for the Techno collectors.

This techno sooth my soul while i am sleeping until noon or when in the basement building a plane with matchsticks, fingers licking good.

emmy award of 2012 should be given by Detroit's Music Hall

Look past the intellectual, ironic, faux-ideological concepts [although admittedly they are quite fun] and listen to the music [shock!] This was the template modern, 'proper' electro album, at the time of its release. Vocoders, 808s and FM synthesis are all here. The songs are mostly stark, repetitive, sometimes 'adult' and often actually quite threatening. You will not get it after the first listen. You will appreciate these tracks the most if you entertain yourself or others by blending electro tracks together in a sequence - for that purpose they score 100%. Eventually the craftsmanship with which these pieces were created and the vague mystique which seems to be inherent in each will percolate down to you, if you're receptive to it. Just don't try to think it out. It's not that kind of record, at heart.

i heard this album was created as payment for dj Hells BMW which one of the band wrapped around a lampost or something after 'borrowing' it at some chemically enhanced party they were at. if you believe this then it is easy to see the album as being a friendly bit of a piss-take of dj Hell and his whole narcissistic plastic electro thing - think 'i want to make love to a mannequin' while looking at some of Hells album art. either way a great album, captures the ironicism of electro in a way that few have ever managed so explicitly while retaining a cold uneasiness and electronic funk which has seen few serious contenders. quite different from some of their other stuff like calibi you space etc. proper

This is indeed a classic techno album. Everything is appropriately done, from the titles of the tracks to the levels of the instruments, to the cover art. It's one giant cold slab of dance music that gives me a twisted vision of some white room in which scientists are creating pornographic movies starring mannequins. The hammer and sickle on the cover harks to an age or culture in which emotions are somewhere near last place. This could have been the soundtrack for much of the film Kontroll. No, it isn't overly ornate, impressively intricate, or ever time-signature bending. But Gesamtkunstwerk IS moving.

Chillingly beautiful release that, seen in retrospective, preceded the (80s electro/minimal/wave inspired) Electro revival we've seen in the early 2000s. I unsuspectingly picked this up in 1999 at a local record store and it instantly widened my musical preferences, introducing me to a whole new world thus far unknown to me. There have been other releases at that time that contributed as well but I don't remember any as vividly as I do the Dopplereffekt DLP. One of the few records that have truly changed my life.
