Art Of Perception is a strange label. To come up with such a brilliant idea to provide a hypothetic electronic soundtrack to Warhammer 40 000 is great, is it not? Unfortunately, beyond the idea, they seem to have asked fashionable, trendy artists to make the tracks and the result is mostly fashionable, trendy and, therefore, highly forgettable. Does anyone think of Ork-populated battlefields when hearing minimal techno, tech-house or dodgy electroclash?
Anyway, some of those releases stand out, like AOP-001 and this one, here.
Both Ascii Disko tracks are of the aforementioned kind, "Chaos" being a monotonous bassline techno track like dozens from the same era, and "The Spell" a horrible electropunk biker-song that could easily be the Hell's Angels theme if they were still sucking lollipops.
"The White Road", by Dr. Shingo is another one of those uninspired housey techno tracks for boring clubs. Bleh. However, there is "The March Of Death", which is much more on point. Pounding, relentless kickdrum, machinery bleeps, then a surreal, grandiloquent synth-line make up for an epic feel that seems to remind more of what one could imagine a war zone and a fight to Death resemble.
