Every once in awhile I enjoy going to record shops around the boston area and getting my fingers dirty digging through crates of old records to see what sort of stuff I've never heard before I can uncover. Several weeks ago I discovered this record covered in dust, amongst several other long forgotten tech house records from 1999-2003, that I ended up taking home with me. Upon just a single listen I quickly realized that this is a record that will probably never be collecting dust again as it hasn't left my turntable since the day I purchased it. Opium Reality & Destroy is a late night stomper with a very simple loop but a great deal of subtle elements and an array of ambient textures that keep me hooked throughout the entirety of its' 14-minute duration. At the nine minute mark I am greeted with a breakdown that strips the song down to just the drumloop and introduces some lush pads reminicient of early-90's deep house which practically creates a second song in and of itself. Tribute to Enforcement is shorter and gets it's point across much quicker than the A-side, but still builds itself up nicely with its' single-note arpegiated synths. Discovering gems like this, as tough as it can be at times, keeps my enduring interest in crate digging alive and well!
