BC* - Digital Nation

I had been after this album for quite some time. I recently bought a copy and I have to say I'm gutted. I forked out a fairly large sum of money for this and it's not great. It sounds contrived and even lame at times.

"Son Of Nitrous" was one of the tunes that got a lot plays from DJ's when this was initially released but I hate it. Sure, it's big and bold but that doesn't necassarily mean it's good. Trace has never been a good D&B producer in my opinion. If I'm going to listen to Tech D&B it's got to be a lot more more sinuous and funked than that. "Digital Nation", "Hysteria", "Toxin" and "Infinity" are all rubbish. Weak, instantly forgettable Tech-Steppers. "Night Train", "Dream Thief" and "Navajo" are just awful.

I would have to agree with the previous reviewer who picked out "Crucafixion" as the choice cut. It's also my favourite track by a long, long way. It's a dark, menacing monster with a strong techy b-line and some fierce, locked, headbangin' beats. There's also some good piano stabs and some sizzling hi-hat action that gives the tune more tension. It's a winner! "Breath" is also excellent featuring some haunting vocals by Sage and one of those tearing b-lines that BC do so well.

Apart from those 2 tunes I'm really struggling to find any other real highlights as frankly there aren't any. I was really excited about finally getting my hands on a copy of this and was waiting for the post with eager anticipation. Now I think I'll be putting it back in the post - Disappointing.

There is obviously a bit of disagreement about this album. I would like to say that, when I brought it upon release, I was really excited to get it. But to be honest, when I did played it, I found it very disapointing aswell. To me, it was obvious that BC had changed direction musically. I was expecting similar tracks to The Nine, China Cup or The Fear E.P, but sadly (for me) there style had drastically changed... That was the end of BC for me. I don't think I ever brought another track by them =(

There previous album called 'Inside The Machine' is far superior. The original copy of Nitrous is on this album and makes the remix sound like a childs song.

OMG its a good thing this non-junglist posted without usinging his name. Digital Nation IS One of the Greatest DnB productions and anyone saying that its not worth the effort and money to get it, has no idea about Drum and Bass. Every track is killer especially Son of Nitrous. It really hurts to hear someone put Digital Nation down when i been looking SO long and hard to get this in my collection :(
If you dont like it, then please get it back in circulation so some real Junglist's can pick it up.

It took me long time to get a copy of this long player but in the end it was worth every penny and effort. This is bad company at their technical best with influences from all of their soundbanks rolled into a very intelligently produced drum & Bass album. A solid favourite and one that will remain in my mixes for a long time.

Oh my God, Bad Company fuckin' rules. The Hysteria track is very good. With samples from the popular Bambaata, this hits very sporatic and hard, with a nice ragga undertone. Cruxifiction, on the other hand, is my favorite. This track is what I call the "set it off" track. If you're set is going slow and progessive, throw is mother in, and try not to break your legs dancing to this! Then, there is Toxin. A very HARD ass bassline, that doesn't roll...it just hits the notes. Mix this into a set, and totally send your crowd into a headbanga frenzy. After these, all the tracks are rockin' too. This LP definately needs to be in your record box, as Dieselboy, AK1200, and Odi have all used tracks in their CD mixes.
