Arguably one of the finest recordings of the techstep era of 1996/97 - during a period when drum & bass could do no wrong - 'The Raven' is superbly-constructed and almost paranoic. The beginning is minimal - a staccato beats intro, 'haunted house' keys and spoken word sample - leaving us in anticipation of the introduction of the 'Reese' bassline (likened to the noise made by a Hoover by the music press of the time). This ultimately provides us with the hook, working as the rhythm element for the main body of the track. Ed Rush's magnum opus?
